Diaspora Investor Community

Diaspora Investor Community — intelligence for Angolan diaspora investors.

Connecting 1.5-2 Million Angolans Abroad to Their Home Market

An estimated 1.5 to 2 million Angolans live outside the country – concentrated in Portugal, Brazil, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Many send remittances (remessas) home to family members, contributing billions of dollars annually to Angola’s balance of payments. Fewer, however, have channelled capital into formal investment vehicles. The Angola X Diaspora Investor Community exists to close that gap by providing the intelligence, tools, and peer network that Angolan expatriates need to participate in their home country’s capital markets from abroad.

The Opportunity

Angola’s capital markets have undergone a structural shift since the first BODIVA equity IPO in 2022. BAI shares, offered at Kz 20,640, now trade near Kz 100,500. BFA, listed in September 2025 at Kz 49,500, trades near Kz 118,000. The Programa de Privatizacoes (PROPRIV) pipeline includes further BODIVA listings. Government bonds – Bilhetes do Tesouro and Obrigacoes do Tesouro – offer yields benchmarked against the Banco Nacional de Angola (BNA) base rate of 17.5%, with inflation at 15.7% (INE, December 2025), producing positive real returns.

For diaspora investors, these returns must be evaluated in the context of currency risk. All BODIVA instruments are denominated in Kwanza (AOA), currently trading at approximately 914.60 per U.S. dollar. The FX dimension adds both risk and potential opportunity, particularly as the BNA’s easing cycle and reserve management (~$14-15 billion) support relative Kwanza stability.

What the Community Offers

Market Intelligence. Members receive the weekly Diaspora Intelligence Brief, covering BODIVA equity and bond market developments, BNA policy decisions, PROPRIV updates, and macroeconomic indicators including oil production (1.03 mbpd) and Brent pricing ($74.50).

Practical Guides. Step-by-step documentation on opening CEVAMA (Central de Valores Mobiliarios de Angola) custody accounts from abroad, navigating BNA foreign exchange authorization requirements, and managing dual-country tax obligations.

Peer Network. A community of Angolan diaspora investors sharing experiences, strategies, and practical knowledge about investing in Angola from Portugal, Brazil, the UK, the US, and other countries. Moderated discussions maintain an institutional-quality standard of discourse.
